BMW 1 Series Performance Edition
The BMW 1 Series Performance Edition is based on the existing hatchback, but with a number of tasty upgrades.
M aerodynamic bodystyling, dark chrome 18in M alloy wheels, dark chrome exhaust tip, darkened rear lights and high-gloss ‘Shadowline’ exterior trim – which is closer to dark chrome than the usually bright silver – complete the exterior makeover.
There’s also M Sport suspension (which will make the ride a little stiffer), sports seats with blue stitching, M Sport multifunction leather steering wheel and gearknob, and floor mats with blue piping. ‘London 2012’ exterior badges add a finishing touch.
You can buy 116i, 116d and 118d three- and five-door versions, and all Performance Editions are priced at £1,500 more than the equivalent ES-specification 1 Series. Once the cost of the added equipment is taken into account, however, customers will actually see a value ‘saving’ of £1,725.
Prices start at £19,530 for the BMW 116i Performance Edition three-door.

BMW 3 Series Performance Edition
The BMW 3 Series Performance Edition gets a similar selection of enhancements to its baby brother.
Again, BMW has raided its M accessories catalogue, adding an M body kit and 18in alloy wheels. However, this time you get a regular chrome exhaust finisher.
The interior includes M multifunction leather steering wheel, sports seats and floor mats with blue piping. London 2012 exterior badges are also present and correct.
Available as a 318i and 318d, the Performance Edition is priced from £23,195. That’s £500 more than an equivalent 3 Series ES, but the additional equipment means £2,030 in added value.
Colour choices are limited to Alpine White, Titanium Silver, Bluewater and Black Sapphire. Both BMW London 2012 Performance Editions are on sale now.
