Although the new Toyota Yaris delivers familiar engines and a familiar model line-up, it also promises improved cabin quality and new in-car technology.
New Toyota Yaris: improved efficiency
There will be three engines and four trim lines in the new Toyota Yaris range.
The engines comprise 68bhp 1.0- and 98bhp 1.33-litre petrols, plus an 89bhp 1.4-litre D-4D turbodiesel. While these are familiar from the current range, fuel economy and emissions are improved.
The 1.0-litre petrol now manages a claimed 58.9mpg combined and 111g/km CO2 – 4% and 7% better than before respectively. And the diesel sees a 7% rise in fuel economy to 72.4mph and a 6% drop in emissions to 104g/km CO2. The 1.33-litre petrol manages a best of 56.5mpg and 118g/km when fitted with the option Multidrive S CVT automatic.

New Toyota Touch infotainment system
The trim levels of the new Yaris are also Toyota mainstays: T2, TR, SR and T Spirit.
Oddly, Toyota is being a little vague about the entry-level standard kit – but that may not matter too much since nearly everyone buys the high value TR version anyway; it’s expected to take two thirds of all UK sales, and is available with all engines in both three- and five-door body styles.
TR includes the new Toyota Touch infotainment system – with touchscreen, Bluetooth and reversing camera – 15-inch alloy wheels, air con and stability control. Toyota Touch is designed to be easily upgraded to Toyota Touch and Go, which includes satellite navigation and bespoke apps.
SR trim is the sporty one, and only available with the 1.33-litre petrol engine. Sharper styling inside and out includes a roof spoiler, front fog lights, part-leather upholstery, tinted glass, 16-inch alloys and lowered suspension.
The range-topping T Spirit is available as a five-door only and adds a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, automatic lights and wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror and keyless go.
