Garmin has launched a new sat nav app for Apple iPhone users, the StreetPilot. It comes almost two years after the launch of the TomTom iPhone app.
With navigation apps becoming more and more popular the launch does not come as a big surprise, but it has been a surprise that Garmin has waited so long to release this product in the UK.
At £44.99, the Garmin StreetPilot currently undercuts TomTom by £5.
Check out our sat nav reviews for our latest test results, including test results for over 21 apps.
The StreetPilot shares many of the features of Garmin’s dedicated sat navs. The interface and look of the mapping are quite similar, while PhotoReal Junction View gives a realistic view at motorway junctions with added lane guidance.
Although the Garmin includes just UK & Ireland mapping initially, European maps are expected at a later date.
Live traffic updates
For an extra £2.99 a month, you can add live traffic information to the app. Like dedicated Garmin satnavs featuring live traffic, this alerts you when there is traffic congestion on your route and calculates a faster route around it if one exists.
We’ll be taking the app for a test drive this weekend and publishing our first impressions next week.
