The latest Which? tests of 20 indoor TV aerials - including models from One for all, Philex and Total Control - reveal that there are stark differences in performance between the best and worst on the market.

As digital switchover sweeps through the UK an increasing number of households are looking for set-top TV aerials that will give them the best reception of the whole range of Freeview TV channels. However Which? tests show that some are lacking.

Which? testing reveals huge differences in performance

We subjected 20 set-top aerials to a battery of technical tests and followed them up with some real-life testing in houses situated at several different locations.

This gave us the chance to check reception from different transmitters and at different signal strengths to pinpoint those aerials that would work consistently across the whole TV frequency range and which would perform best in low-strength signal areas.

The spread in results between best to worst was huge and highlighted that if you buy the wrong aerial it may simply not work where you live.

We found two high performing aerials in this test that consistently deliver the best signal strength to your TV set and, pleasingly, one of them costs only £13. However, sadly, we found other similarly priced aerials that were at the other end of the scale, poor performers that are distinct Don't Buys.
