The 2012 Lexus GS will be available from £32,995
Lexus has released full pricing and specification details for its 2012 GS range. The new large saloon is on sale now, priced from £32,995. Deliveries start in mid-June.
2012 Lexus GS: Four trim levels
The new Lexus GS range is available in four trim levels – SE, Luxury, F Sport and Premier.
Entry-level SE specification cars come well equipped as standard, with a full leather interior, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, cruise control, keyless entry and a reversing camera.
Equipment also includes dual-zone climate control, electric heated and cooled front seats, Bluetooth connectivity and a 12-speaker stereo with MP3-compatible CD player and DAB radio.
The GS comes well equipped as standard
Luxury trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors and satellite navigation – controlled by the largest touchscreen on the market at 12.3 inches. Lexus’s sports-focused F Sport trim gets larger 19-inch wheels, a small boot spoiler and different front and rear bumpers.
F Sport cars are also subject to some chassis modifications – including Adaptive Variable Suspension and Lexus’s Dynamic Handling System, which alters the car’s steering and handling on demand.
Range-topping Premier versions have an upgraded audio system, as well as the option of radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control.
The 2012 Lexus GS will be powered by a new 3.5-litre V6 engine
2012 Lexus GS: New V6 engine
The new GS is powered by a new 206bhp 2.5-litre petrol V6 giving what is best described as adequate performance – it will reach 62mph from rest in 8.6 seconds, but is slower than BMW’s lower-powered 184bhp 520i, which manages the benchmark sprint in 7.9 seconds.
The new engine’s efficiency is nothing to write home about, and it lags behind the competition - returning claimed fuel economy of 31.7mpg and 207g/km CO2 emissions. By comparison, similar spec versions of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-class return claimed efficiency of 44.1mpg with 141g/km CO2 and 42.8mpg with 154g/km CO2 respectively.
The new 2.5-litre engine is available on SE, Luxury and F Sport cars, while the existing GS 450h’s 341bhp 3.5-litre V6 hybrid drivetrain is also carried over, available in Luxury, F Sport or Premier guise.
Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual override function via steering wheel-mounted paddles.
2012 Lexus GS: From £32,995
The entry-level GS 250 SE is priced from £32,995, while 2.5-engined Luxury and F Sport vehicles begin at £35,995 and £39,995.
Buyers looking for a premium saloon with environmental credentials can get into the larger-engined GS hybrid from £44,995, rising to £50,995 for the GS450h F Sport and Premier models.
