Like the five-door version of its close relation, the Volkswagen Up, the five-door Seat Mii promises to be a more practical proposition than the three-door version.
By adding a set of rear doors, Seat has improved rear access, making things even better for the two back seat passengers, who are already treated to one of the roomier city-car layouts on the market.
1.0-litre petrol engine, 96g/km CO2
Power comes from the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine as the three-door version. In standard guise this means a choice of 59bhp or 74bhp with claimed economy of 62.8mpg and 60.1mpg, respectively.
But buyers can also opt for an EcoMotive upgrade at extra cost that adds start-stop and brake energy recovery, pushing claimed economy to 68.9mpg and 67.2mpg.
Both EcoMotives emit less than 100g/km CO2 – the 74bhp tune managing 98g/km, and the 59bhp variant just 96g/km. This means every Mii EcoMotive is car tax exempt.
Technology and safety equipment
Seat’s Portable System is a five-inch touchscreen satellite navigation system that can, as the name suggests, be removed from the car and used on foot. It’s also used to control audio and Bluetooth functions when docked with the vehicle.
City Assist Braking is an autonomous urban braking system that can stop the car at speeds up to 18mph, if it detects an unavoidable impact and the driver has failed to respond. In some cases it can avoid an accident altogether, in others the impact will be reduced.
As with the Volkswagen Up, the three-door version of the Mii has already secured a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Full UK pricing and specification of the three- and five-door Seat Mii will be confirmed closer to launch in the spring.
