Ford claims 86mpg for new Fiesta Econetic But priciest Fiesta now costs even more to buy
28 March 2012
Ford has upgraded the frugal Econetic version of its Fiesta supermini – with dramatic improvements to claimed efficiency.
The new Ford Fiesta Econetic is said to return 85.6mpg, while emitting just 87g/km CO2.
Ford Fiesta Econetic: significant changes
The latest Econetic is powered by the same 94bhp 1.6-litre TDCi turbodiesel engine as the previous version.
But Ford has tweaked the engine, revised the gear ratios and fitted a regenerative charging system.
More importantly, the engine start-stop system and EcoMode driving setting are now standard.
Overall, the updates represent an efficiency improvement of 12%, according to Ford.
Ford Fiesta Econetic price hike
Buyers will have to pay an even more hefty premium for the latest Fiesta Econetic, however.
Available in Edge, Zetec and Titanium specification, prices start at £14,445 and rise to an eye-watering £16,795.
This is £350 more than the previous Econetic, and nearly £1,500 more than alternative diesel Fiestas – although these 1.4-litre units also offer only 69bhp and emissions of 107g/km.
