01 March 2012

Our first March deals feature a strong saving on the efficiency-focused DRIVe variant of Volvo’s C30 hatchback, plus an attractive finance offer on a range of Citroëns.

We’ve also found a good discount on Honda’s capable CR-V compact 4x4.

Save at least £2,900 on the Volvo C30 DRIVe

£2,900+ off Volvo C30 DRIVe

With Volvo set to debut its new V40 premium hatchback at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, we’ve found deals on the firm’s first modern hatchback, the C30.

Volvo’s DRIVe tag means stop-start technology, low rolling resistance tyres and an economical engine. The C30 is powered by a 113bhp 1.6-litre turbodiesel that will return 74.3mpg (claimed) combined with 99g/km CO2. That means the C30 DRIVe shouldn’t break the bank to run, as it qualifies for zero car tax (VED).

As you’d expect from a Volvo, safety is good. The C30 features dual-stage driver and passenger airbags (as well as side and curtain items), a side impact and whiplash protection system, plus a host of electronic driver aids.

AutoeBid – a reverse auction site that allows dealers to underbid each other for your custom – is advertising the C30 DRIVe at £15,835. But this £2,900 discount on the car’s £18,745 list price is just the minimum buyers could save.

The Citroën C3 is included in this deal

0% finance and 0% VAT on Citroëns

We’ve got an official manufacturer deal from Citroën, with the French firm offering 0% VAT and three years 0% APR representative finance on selected C3, C3 Picasso, C4, C4 Picasso and C4 Grand Picasso models.

With a wide range of cars on offer, there are vehicles to cater for drivers looking for a style-orientated supermini or hatchback, as well as the full spectrum of Citroën’s versatile MPVs.

The compact C3 Picasso can accommodate 385 litres of luggage (1,506 litres with the rear seats folded), rising to 576 litres in the C4 Grand Picasso with its seven seats in place - or a cavernous 1,951 litres with the third row of seats stowed.

The deal is based on an initial deposit of 30% with 36 fixed monthly payments (subject to status, terms and conditions apply) and is available through Citroën until 31 March.

Pick up a top-spec Honda CR-V for £25,910

Save £3,500 on top-spec Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V will be replaced this year, but the current iteration of Honda’s compact 4x4 is still a good buy.

In range-topping 2.2i-DTEC EX specification, the CR-V comes well-equipped: 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, an MP3-compatible premium audio system, cruise control, electric seats, six airbags and voice recognition sat nav are all standard.

The CR-V’s 148bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine is mated to Honda’s permanent four-wheel-drive system. With the engine’s 258lb ft of torque (pulling power) the CR-V should be a capable off-roader and a decent towing vehicle (maximum towing limit is two tonnes).

UK Car Discount is cutting the top-spec CR-V’s £29,465 retail price by £3,555, with its £25,910 on-the-road price including free UK home delivery. Buyers can also specify metallic paint as a £490 cost option.

Hot Deal hunters please note:

• Not all brokers deal in UK sourced vehicles, and this may have an impact on standard equipment and warranty levels.
• The term ‘pre-reg’ or ‘pre-registered’ refers to vehicles that are brand new but already registered with the DVLA. This means that you will appear as the second owner in the V5 registration document.
• Beware of unscrupulous brokers who tell you that they will have to retain the V5 registration document for a period of time after your purchase of the car. Vehicles sold this way may be cheap, but there are numerous legal implications and as such they should be avoided.
• With regards to all of the above, always make sure you know exactly what you’re buying before you put your money down in order to ensure you are making an informed choice.
