Fast smart battery chargers put to the test Which? awards first Best Buy to a battery charger
23 April 2012
Test results are in for five super-fast smart chargers. Each promises to charge your batteries in less than an hour – but only one is fast enough to be a Which? Best Buy.
Which? has just tested five smart battery chargers to find the fastest option for charging your batteries.
Which? deputy home editor Hazel Cottrell said: ‘Overall we were fairly impressed by the speed of all five chargers we tested, but each has its pros and cons - and only one had a high enough score to become a Which? Best Buy.’
You can see full test results for each of the Duracell, Energizer, Uniross and Maplin chargers and find out which is a Best Buy in our battery chargers review.
Faster, smarter battery chargers
Smart battery chargers, also known as delta-v chargers, monitor charge levels in each battery and stop charging just before it’s full.
They are usually the best choice for keeping batteries in good shape because they prevent overcharging, which can reduce battery lifetimes.
We selected five very fast smart chargers – those that promise to charge batteries in an hour or less - and put them through a variety of tough lab tests to find the best.
Rechargeable batteries save money
Advances in charger and battery technology are making rechargeable batteries more attractive than ever, and the savings you can make by switching from disposables to rechargeables is significant.
Most batteries can be charged more than 1,000 times, but even if you charge them just 100 times, we’ve calculated that a set of Best Buy rechargeable batteries could save you more than £500 over their lifetime, compared with disposables.
