Toyota GT86 prices and spec revealedHotly-anticipated GT86 sports car on sale now
03 April 2012
Toyota has finally confirmed UK pricing and equipment for its GT86 sports car.
The GT86 is on sale now, priced from £24,995, with customer deliveries beginning in early July this year.
Toyota GT86 equipment
The GT86 is available in one trim level only, with standard equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth seats, climate control, cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Japanese marque is offering heated leather seats as a £1,600 option, and its Touch and Go satellite navigation system at £750.
Focus on the driver
The GT86 is designed to deliver a driver-oriented experience. It develops 197bhp from a Subaru-derived 2.0-litre ‘boxer’ engine in a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive chassis.
It sprints to 62mph in 7.0 seconds, so you’d never call it slow, but with a relatively low power output by modern sports car standards, the emphasis is placed firmly on the car's handling.
Weighing-in at 1,210kg, and with a limited-slip differential as standard to aid grip, the way the GT86 tackles corners promises to be the main attraction.
GT86 prices from £25k
Prices start at £24,995 for cars equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and £26,495 for those with a six-speed semi-automatic paddle shift transmission.
The four-seat GT86 coupé represents good value, even if those rear seat are only suitable for children. But at this price point and power output, the Toyota has very few rivals.
A slightly more powerful 215bhp BMW 125i M Sport – another small, rear-wheel-drive coupé – would set you back £27,365 – £2,370 more than the Toyota.
