Volkswagen announces Polo R LineNew VW Polo given sporty styling
30 April 2012
VW has released its new Polo R Line. The sportier supermini adds a styling pack and boasts decent equipment as standard.
The new Polo R is priced from £15,195 and is available to order now, but customer deliveries don’t start until July.
Sportier Polo R
The Polo R Line is a sportier version of VW’s Polo supermini and gets deeper front and rear bumpers, side skirts and 16-inch alloy wheels fitted as standard. Inside, the R Line features a leather steering wheel and black cloth sports seats.
Under the bonnet is a 104bhp 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and offers a decent balance of efficiency and performance. VW claims 53.3mpg combined with 124g/km CO2 emissions – meaning £100 annual car tax (VED) – plus 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds. We were impressed with the Polo when it was put through our tests and the fuel economy for the 1.2 turbo unit came close to VW’s claims, at 40.9mpg.
Polo R from £15,195
The three-door Polo R Line costs £15,195, rising to £15,815 for the five-door variant – that’s £3,500 more than the cheapest Polo Match models, which the R Line is based on.
The 104bhp 1.2 is not available in Match trim, however – to buy that engine in three- or five-door guise will cost you £15,575 and £16,195 respectively, highlighting the R Line’s competitive price.
