Chevrolet will add a new small off-roader to its model range to rival the popular Nissan Juke crossover.
The new car will make its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September and goes on sale in 2013.
Chevrolet Trax: compact 4×4
Based on its sister vehicles – the Vauxhall Mokka and the American Buick Encore – the General Motors compact off-roader platform is larger than the Juke, closely matching Nissan’s bigger Qashqai and Peugeot’s mid-sized 3008 crossover.
The Trax’s engine line-up is likely to be shared with the Vauxhall Mokka. That means a 113bhp 1.6-litre petrol, a 138bhp 1.4-litre petrol turbo and a 128bhp 1.7-litre turbodiesel will be available from launch.
The pair of more powerful engines will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox – automatic transmission will probably be an option.

The Trax will also be available in two- and four-wheel drive guises, although limited ground clearance will hamper its off-road ability. The 4WD system is more likely to be called into action in a slippery supermarket car park.
Chevrolet is yet to reveal pricing and specifications for the Trax, but expect more information closer to the car’s UK launch in spring 2013. The Trax should undercut the Mokka’s probable £15,000 starting price.
