Kooltrade, the UK distributor of Baby Jogger pushchairs is recalling a batch of Baby Jogger City Versa pushchairs after uncovering a fault in the folding mechanism.
A component of the pushchair ‘interferes with the proper functioning of the fold mechanism in a very limited number of the pushchairs’ and creates a potential safety issue with the pushchair. There have been no reports of any injuries.
Which? has tested several Baby Jogger pushchairs. To find out if any of them are Best Buys visit our Baby Jogger pushchair reviews.
Is your Baby Jogger faulty?
The affected pushchairs are black and silver versions of the Baby Jogger City Versa, manufactured in August 2012. Parents who own a City Versa can find the batch details stamped on the outside of the side-moulding; the affected models are stamped with ‘Mft.Date:2012.08.10.’
Kooltrade says: ‘The safety of our customers and their families is paramount to us. We’re therefore asking you to stop using the pushchair immediately and contact us on 0115 918 1551 to arrange to return the Jogger to us.
‘Alternatively you can arrange to return it to your local store, please call the number above with details of the store you will be returning it to.’
Kooltrade adds: ‘Unfortunately we are currently out of stock of replacement City Versa pushchairs to substitute for the affected batch, so if you have one of these pushchairs, please take it back to your retailer and they will give you a full refund.’
Fault delays the Which? City Versa review
The Baby Jogger City Versa is currently being tested for ease of use, safety and durability at the Which? pushchairs lab.
Which? pushchairs expert Victoria Pearson says: ‘Which? tries to copy the consumer experience as closely as possible by buying the pushchairs we test from a shop, rather than obtaining them direct fom the manufacturer.
‘Our test sample is from the affected batch; our testers noticed that the Baby Jogger City Versa looked oddly long when they folded it and it didn’t seem to fold down as they’d expect.
‘We are pleased to see Kooltrade taking such positive action to address a problem that it has identified with its products. We’ll be returning our sample and testing our replacement to check that this folding problem no longer occurs.’
Trendy Baby Joggers – a playground favourite
Baby Jogger is an American pushchair brand that has become very popular in the UK in the past few years thanks to the innovative way that the stroller folds – you simply lift it using some straps in the seat and it folds down.
The newly released City Versa is the first Baby Jogger pushchair to have a parent-facing seat, which allows parents to check on and chat with their baby as they walk along.
