New app helps you save money on food shoppingApp shows cheaper alternatives and special offers

01 November 2012

Shopping website MySupermarket has launched a new app that's designed to help you to save you money on your online food shopping.

The MySupermarket Companion app pops up in the corner of your web browser whenever you visit the Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Ocado or Waitrose websites, and tells you how much you would save by buying cheaper alternative products or switching to another supermarket.

The app also offers cashback on selected products and shows available multibuy deals and money-off vouchers.

Which? shopping expert Matt Clear said: 'With food prices rising, many consumers are considering trading down to cheaper products and want to be able to compare prices between supermarkets clearly. Let's hope this app can help them to do that.'

App will highlight lower prices

MySupermarket says the app will also let you know when a product is at least 30% cheaper than it’s been all year on average.

You can download the MySupermarket Companion free of charge. It's currently only available for use on PCs, but a mobile version will be released in early 2013.

Support better supermarket pricing

We'd like to see all supermarkets take steps to improve their pricing, so that no matter where you shop you'll always be able to work out the best deal.

And to ensure consistency across the supermarkets, we would like to see the government give them clearer rules about how to display unit pricing so that it's genuinely helpful for shoppers.

You can add your support to our campaign by signing our unit pricing pledge. The more people who sign, the better our chances are of getting clear and consistent unit pricing into every UK supermarket.
