In the run up to Christmas, our experts have spotted a number of great cut-price deals. This week we’ve found the Tefal Actifry fryer reduced by £94.26 at Amazon, making it £109.99.
Unlike the usual deep fat fryers, the innovative Tefal Actifry needs only a tiny amount of oil to cook your food. It also comes with a recipe book to help inspire you to fry.
But does the reduction in oil mean a reduction in taste and quality? Will it cook food quickly and evenly and, most importantly of all, does it make good chips?
Find out what our expert lab tests revealed about the Tefal Actifry fryer – and how does it compare to the Philips Viva Airfryer, which also claims to offer a healthier fried dish?

How we test fryers
Online or in store, there is no way of knowing whether the fryer you’re buying will cook mouth-watering chips. So that’s where our rigorous lab tests come in.
We cook chips and frozen scampi in each fryer to test how long it takes to heat up the oil to 170°C and 190°C, how well it keeps at that temperature while cooking and how quickly it cooks the food.
We then assess the food on how evenly it’s been cooked, plus the overall quality and appeal.
We also look at how easy the fryers are to use and clean, whether they leak oil, and how quickly they cool down.
