Hoover safety

Hoover has issued a safety notice about some of its fridge-freezers, as they are a potential fire risk.

Hoover said that a batch of fridge-freezers have a potential fault - the defrost timer can overheat and in certain circumstances this can result in fire.

Which? has tested one of these products - the Hoover HNC6185W - and the review is being updated to include Hoover's safety notice. You can find out more about this fridge-freezer, or other fridge-freezers we've tested, by reading our fridge-freezer reviews.

Fridge-freezers affected

The fridge-freezers affected by this fault were produced between August 2011 and August 2012 and have the following model names:

Hoover HNC6185W
Hoover HNC6185A
Hoover HNC6200A
Hoover HNC6185WE
Hoover HNC6200WE
Hoover HNC6185AE

You will need to identify the model name, product code and date code to find out if your model is affected. You can do this by removing the salad crisper drawer. The information should be displayed in the same way as the image above.

You will then need to enter these details into the Hoover website to identify if your product has the potential fault.

What to do if you have an affected model

Hoover have confirmed that it is repairing the faulty models once consumers inform them that they own one. You can call Hoover on 08444 995599 to let them know.

The defrost timer fault is similar to the fault that affects certain Beko fridge-freezer models, which are also a potential fire risk. You can find out if you have an affected Beko model in our Beko fridge-freezer Q&A.
