Helpful Holidays has topped a Which? survey to find the best and worst companies to book your cottage or villa holiday with, leading a list of 13 providers.
In a survey based on over 2,000 cottage and villa booking experiences, Helpful Holidays fared best with an impressive customer score of 91%.
The South West England cottage specialist performed well across a range of criteria, including customer service, its range of properties, ease of searching on its website and ease of booking. It also received the maximum five star rating for its properties matching their description – the only company to achieve this.

UK holiday cottages top
UK cottage companies occupy the top four places in the survey with Cumbrian Cottages (91%), Classic Cottages (87%) and National Trust Holiday Cottages (85%) all performing well.
The picture is pretty encouraging for the cottages and villas industry as a whole, with an average customer score of 81% across all of the 13 companies. Even Hoseasons cottages who sit at the bottom of the table received a fairly respectable customer score of 72% from members, achieving three stars across all featured categories including value for money.
Ratings for cottage and villa companies
To produce customer scores for each hotel chain, we asked Which? members how satisfied they were overall with the experience and how likely they were to recommend it to a friend.
Each cottage and villa company was rated on customer service, range of properties, ease of searching the website, quality of information, ease of booking, how well the property matched the description and value for money.
