Hot Car Deal – BMW 5 Series

Big savings on 5 Series saloon and estate

IMPORTANT: Read the information at the bottom of this page before going ahead with any car purchase.

The BMW 5 Series is one of the world’s most popular luxury saloons. The current range is bigger and better-equipped than ever, with a range of very efficient diesels and lots of clever technology throughout.

With prices starting at a shade over £30,000, the BMW 5 Series certainly isn’t cheap. Add a few optional extras and the final cost could soon start to spiral out of control. However, there are plenty of deals out there to help keep purchase costs down. Here are three of the best.

Take a £1 trial with Which? to find out more about the BMW 5 Series and its rivals.

Top choice BMW 520d for £26,829

The BMW 5 Series remains the most driver-focused luxury car on the market, with a superb engine range, crisp handling and excellent dynamic feedback. The latest range is much simplified, with SE spec and M Sport specifications forming the backbone of the line-up.

The 530d offers the most impressive blend of performance and economy, but we recommend the 520d Efficient Dynamics if low running costs are important to you. This car returned 56.5mpg in our independent fuel economy tests, substantially better than the 530d’s tested figure of 40.9mpg.

Nationwide Cars has a great deal on the 520d saloon, dropping the £30,525 asking price to £26,829 – that’s a saving of just shy of £4,000.

For added practicality it’s worth taking a look at the 5 Series Touring – you get an extra 70 litres of boot space. 520d Blue Performance SE specification offers a good level of equipment, including cruise control, parking distance control and Bluetooth connectivity. Head to Carfile to save yourself £3,986 on this model, bring the final cost down to £30,090.

£3,055 off BMW 520i M Sport

The 2.0-litre petrol 520i M Sport packs a punch: with 184bhp on offer, it offers decent performance at a price that won’t break the bank. List prices start at £34,900 but Carfile is currently offering a discount of £3,055, dropping the final on-the-road price to £31,845.

Be warned though: this is a thirsty car – BMW claims the fuel economy is 40.4mpg but in real world conditions you’d be lucky to match this figure.

The hot car deals:

Hot car deal hunters please note:

  • The car brokers and deals featured are not vetted, endorsed or recommended by Which?. Always check the specifics of the deal so you know exactly what you are getting and who is supplying the car. Make sure all aspects of the deal are confirmed in writing before committing to buy.
  • Not all brokers deal in UK sourced vehicles, and this may have an impact on standard equipment and warranty levels.
  • The term ‘pre-reg’ or ‘pre-registered’ refers to vehicles that are brand new but already registered with the DVLA. This means that you will appear as the second owner on the V5 registration document.
  • Beware of unscrupulous brokers who tell you they will have to retain the V5 registration document for a period of time after your purchase of the car. Vehicles sold this way may be cheap, but there are legal implications, including the risk that you the buyer could be committing a criminal offence when you drive the car, so they should be avoided.
