Which? reveals the best and worst nappy brandsWe find some cheaper nappies beat pricier ones
23 May 2013
A Which? survey reveals the best disposable and reusable nappy brands, and we've discovered that you don't have to spend a lot to get a good nappy.
We asked 1,448 UK parents to rate 12 disposable and 17 reusable nappy brands on absorbancy, comfort, fit, ease of use and value for money, giving each brand an overall customer score.
Best disposable nappies
We've rated brands, including Pampers, Tesco, Huggies, Lidl and Mothercare, and found mixed results for both expensive and cheap nappy brands.
Opting for an expensive brand of nappy could cost you as much as £438 a year, as opposed to £204 for a cheaper brand. But although some cheap brands did well, others did badly, some only gaining two stars for absorbancy.
Our top-scoring disposable nappy achieved 73%, with four stars for absorbancy, fit and comfort. However, the bottom two nappy brands scored just 44%, with only two stars for all five categories.

Best reusable nappies
People are often torn between using reusable and disposable nappies. As a child can use over 4,000 nappies until they are potty trained, the costs and environmental impact can add up - our guide to reusable vs disposable nappies will help you decide.
But if you have chosen reusable nappies, it's hard to know which nappy brand to go for - you don't want to end up with one that isn't absorbent enough, is tricky to use and isn't comfortable for your baby.
The top-scoring reusable nappy brand gained a customer score of 67%, while the bottom brand scored 50%, with only two stars for absorbency, comfort and value for money.
Choosing the best nappy
When your new baby arrives it's not easy to know which brand of nappy to buy. As well as rating brands, we asked parents what they find important in a nappy and what encourages them to recommend it to a friend.
Our guide to choosing a nappy will talk you through the factors to consider, costs, sizes and types, for both disposable and reusable nappies.
