Which? Best Buy luggage revealedSamsonite, Antler and John Lewis suitcases tested

13 June 2013

Looking for the best luggage for your next holiday? We've tested 11 suitcases to add to our growing list of over 25 online luggage reviews, including five Best Buy suitcases, all receiving an excellent test score of over 83%.

Our latest reviews include big name luggage manufacturers such as Antler, Samsonite and Tripp, as well as other own brand luggage from Tesco, John Lewis, Argos and House of Fraser. And after putting the suitcases through their paces in our rigorous testing we have a new addition to our coveted list of Best Buy suitcases.

When it comes to quality, suitcases don’t come much more robust than our latest Best Buy. Its zips, handles and soft-shelled exterior breezed through our barrage of durability tests, impressing our experts. It’s the second-largest of our Best Buys so should suit travellers wanting to pack more for their holiday. To find out more, check out our Best Buy luggage reviews.

Cheap luggage

Luggage we've tested includes the Tesco's large 2-Wheel Ultra Lightweight Suitcase and the extra large Argos Value Range Black Trolley Suitcase, both of which are currently available for under £40. But are these budget friendly suitcases any good?

Which? members can log in to find out how these suitcases have fared in our tests. But if you’re not a member yet, you can still discover which suitcases have done well in our tests by signing up for a £1 trial and getting instant access to all of our product reviews.

Hard and soft hand luggage

We’ve reviewed hard-shelled suitcases such as Samsonite S’Cure DLX and Antler’s Camden suitcase and soft-shelled suitcases like the John Lewis Fusion large suitcase and Tripp’s Absolute Lite 4-Wheel large suitcase.

Hard-shelled cases have the reputation of being more durable but our tests show that this is not always true. Head to our complete luggage reviews to find out which are the best hard and soft-shelled cases.

All of the hand luggage that we test is put through a series of gruelling tests. We test durability on an obstacle-studded roller belt, we drop the cases on their corners when filled with weights, and we subject hand luggage to a simulated heavy downpour to test water resistance. Watch our video to find out more about how we test luggage.
