We put 11 new laptops, including the Apple MacBook Air, through our gruelling lab tests to find out exactly how they cope in real life situations. We can reveal that six have been awarded the coveted Best Buy logo.
What we found:
We put popular brands such as Apple, HP, Toshiba, Dell and Sony through their paces. Our tests uncovered six new best buy laptops including two for under £600.
Among the haul there’s a strong contender in the ultrabook range. This laptop is sleek, offers great battery life and has plenty of ports and connections. It even gives the Apple MacBook Air range a run for its money.
There were also two lower scoring laptops which suffer from poor design, lousy battery life and one has an annoyingly noisy fan.

We’ve tested both the new 11 and 13-inch Apple MacBook Air ultrabooks. They run using the latest Intel processor and boast the longest battery life claims we’ve ever seen on any laptop.
How we test laptops
We test everything from light portable ultrabooks, to powerhouse desktop replacement laptops so you can find something to suit you.
Each laptop must face a barrage of technical tests as well as being subjected to the discerning eyes and ears of our laptop experts.
Our tests are designed to answer questions such as:
- What’s the battery life like?
- What’s the screen quality and sound quality like?
- How speedy is it?
- What’s it like to use on a day-to-day basis?
Each review contains a verdict to let you know whether or not the laptop is worthy of your hard earned cash. Each laptop goes through exactly the same tests in our lab, so you can directly compare their strengths and weaknesses.
