Our latest testing of 11 new laptops has uncovered seven Best Buys, including four under £600.
Among the haul of Best Buys there’s a strong performer in the ultrabook range. This laptop is sleek and portable, has a premium feel with excellent build quality and offers great battery life.
We put popular brands such as Samsung, Asus, Lenovo, Sony and Toshiba through our rigorous lab tests to find out how they stack up against the competition.
The laptops we tested that didn’t make the Best Buy cut included two models that suffered from low screen resolution and poor sound quality from the speakers.
Touchscreen laptop reviews
We’ve also tested some laptop models that feature a touchscreen. Our reviews reveal how they compare to standard screens for clarity and accuracy of colour.
Although touchscreen displays aren’t necessary, they do work well with the Windows 8 tile interface. This means you can easily navigate around, and simply swipe between, the different applications.

How we test laptops
We test everything from light portable ultrabooks to powerhouse desktop replacement laptops to find out exactly how they perform in real life situations so you can find something to suit you.
Each laptop must face a barrage of technical tests as well as being subjected to the discerning eyes and ears of our laptop experts.
Our tests are designed to answer questions such as:
- What’s the battery life like?
- What’s the screen quality and sound quality like?
- How speedy is it?
- What’s it like to use on a day-to-day basis?
Each review contains a verdict to let you know whether or not the laptop is worth spending your cash on. Every laptop goes through exactly the same tests in our lab, so you can directly compare how each one performs.
