Now you can boil your kettle from your smartphone

New iKettle can be turned on using wi-fi

A new kettle has been launched which can be turned on via wi-fi from your smartphone or tablet.

The new iKettle, priced at £100, lets you boil water to your chosen temperature from anywhere in your home.

Which? kettles expert Matt Clear said: ‘Being able to turn the kettle on remotely is an interesting feature, but for £100 it’ll also have to be quiet, easy to use and energy efficient in order to be worth buying.’

Kettles are put through rigorous tests at Which? and are rated on everything from speed of boiling and noise to how effective the limescale filter is. Find the right kettle for you in our kettle reviews.

Boil the kettle from your bed

The iKettle comes with a ‘wake’ mode, which can be set to send you the message: ‘Good morning! Would you like me to pop the kettle on? Yes/No.’

Of course, if you’re away from the kettle when switching it on, you can’t tell how full it is. But iKettle says its automatic switch-off stops it from being turned on when empty.

The iKettle offers four different temperature options to suit different drinks – such as 80°C for green tea and 95°C for coffee. And it’s claimed that the kettle’s ‘keep warm’ option means you won’t need to boil it again if you stay in bed longer than planned.

Kettle reviews

The iKettle is being sold on Firebox, an online gift and gadget store, and can be ordered now for delivery by the end of next month.

We’ll be looking to bring in the iKettle for a first look review so we can find out if there are reasons to recommend it beyond the remote switch-on function.

Which? kettle tests cover everything you need to know about kettles. We test how noisy kettles are, and have found models that reach 95 decibels when boiling – as loud as an electric drill. We’ve included a noise rating in each of our 199 kettle reviews.
