Dolce Gusto Mini Me vs Tassimo VivyCompact coffee machines go head to head
13 December 2013
Looking for that perfect gift for a coffee fanatic? Popular rival coffee machine makers Tassimo and Nescafe Dolce Gusto have both launched new models just in time for Christmas.
The new Tassimo T12 Vivy and Dolce Gusto Mini Me are both super compact - designed to fit in the most space-starved of homes - and cost less than £100.
Our researcher is busy trying out both of these coffee machines to bring you the Which? first look verdict in time for any festive shopping.
Popular coffee machines go small
Tassimo and Nescafe Dolce Gusto both produce a range of popular capsule coffee machines, which can make all manner of hot drinks beyond your standard espresso and cappuccino, using a simple capsule system.
We’ve tested older models from these ranges, including the Tassimo TAS6515GB, Dolce Gusto Piccolo and Melody models. Read our coffee machine reviews to find out how they did in our tough tests compared to other capsule-based machines from brands such as Nespresso, Starbucks, Lavazza and Illy.
The new Mini Me and Vivy models are designed for those who are short on space and cash, yet keen to have café-style hot drink options at home.
Tassimo and Dolce Gusto go head to head
Dolce Gusto describes its new machine as ‘Fun Outside, Serious Inside’ and claims that it can make ‘coffee shop style’ drinks at home. At a recommended price of just under £100, it is widely available for around £50 at time of writing and comes in a range of colour options. Its main selling point is its tiny size, compared to other models in the range.
Similarly, with the diminutive new Tassimo Vivy, Tassimo is encouraging consumers to ‘give small’ this Christmas. It claims that this coffee machine is specifically designed to fit into cramped spaces, but will still deliver the full-sized Tassimo experience. It also claims that the Vivy will deliver coffee shop-quality drinks at home.
The Vivy uses - among others - branded Costa and Cadburys drinks capsules (called T-discs). The recommended price is just under £100, but it's currently on offer for £70.
