New 'smart' electric toothbrush launchedNew electronic toothbrush connects to app
10 January 2014
Brushing your teeth just became a whole lot more interesting with the launch of a smart electronic toothbrush.
Manufacturers say the ‘connected brush' is a new concept in toothbrush technology allowing you to analyse how well you brush your teeth and rate your performance each time.
It will be months before you can buy a connected toothbrush in the UK but in the meantime if you're looking for an electric toothbrush check out our reviews of electric toothbrushes - including toothbrushes from Philips and Oral B.
How does this electronic toothbrush work?
Users connect the smart toothbrush to their phone via a mobile app. Wireless technology then records every brushing session and results are automatically synchronised to their smartphone.
The application can be set up for multiple users – each one generating scores to allow users to compare their brushing skills. French manufacturers Kolibree claims its 'world first' technology will allow users to monitor whether they are brushing for long enough as well as tackling hard-to-reach cavities.
Which? dental care expert Jess O'Leary said: 'This could be a fun way to encourage children to brush their teeth. But you don't need an app to be smart about maintaining good dental hygiene. Just follow our Which? advice to choosing and using electronic toothbrushes.
Models are expected to be on sale from selected stores, as well as via the the manufacturer's website, from the Autumn.
