The new Hotpoint espresso machine uses Illy capsules

Hotpoint has revealed its first freestanding coffee machine in the UK - but how does this stylish machine compare to similar Nespresso coffee machines? Does it really make a top quality espresso in seconds with minimal fuss?

The Hotpoint for Illy capsule coffee machine uses the Illy iperEspresso capsule system and costs £130, a similar price to Nespresso coffee machines.

It reached us just as our full coffee machine taste test was in progress, so we got our coffee tasting expert to try the espresso and give his expert first impressions. Which? members can log in to find out what our expert thought of the Hotpoint coffee machine.

Hotpoint espresso machine with Illy capsules

The Hotpoint coffee machine uses the Illy iperEspresso capsule system, also used in Francis Francis coffee machines.

Illy claims its capsules' two-stage extraction process - where a small amount of water 'hyper-infuses' the coffee grounds before the espresso is dispensed - helps to create the ultimate espresso.

Members can find out whether this fancy method makes any difference to the quality of the espresso produced by reading our reviews of Francis Francis Illy coffee machine reviews.

The Hotpoint for Illy coffee machine is available from John Lewis and Argos. A wall-mounted version is also available for £160.
