More than half of people who shop online are worried about their security and privacy when making purchases on the internet, a new Which? survey has found.
In order to protect themselves, 20% of online shoppers said they have a separate debit or credit card that they only use for online purchases.

Privacy and security concerns
The Which? online survey of 2,102 UK adults in February 2014 found that one in five online shoppers say they have terminated a transaction because they couldn’t be sure the website was genuine.
Fears over website safety is a big concern, with 75% saying they worry that the website they are buying from is fake.
It’s perhaps unsurprising therefore, that almost half of online shoppers say they feel safer shopping on the high street than via the internet.
Precautions to stay safe online
More than three quarters of those who responded to the survey only shop online with websites they know and trust and 71% always check that the website they’re buying from is genuine.
Despite this, online shoppers feel there is more to be done regarding online security with eight in ten agreeing that it should be made easier to check that a website is genuine.
Scams Awareness Month
The new Which? research is published ahead of Scams Awareness Month which takes place during the month of May and which is designed to help consumers fight back against the scammers.
According to Citizens Advice Bureau, online shopping and auction scams were the most common fraud reported in 2013 and cost UK consumers a whopping £63.6 million.
