If you’ve got a budget of £6,000, you can find a range of excellent used superminis. We’ve chosen three top models with less than 30,000 miles on the clock – all at less than half of their list prices.
With superminis growing ever larger, many new models weigh in at more than £10,000. Don’t fret if your budget will only stretch to £6,000, though – we’ve found three top used cars for that price. These popular models should stand the test of time – all have less than 30,000 miles on the clock.
Equally, all three cars are easy to drive, return claimed fuel economy of more than 50mpg and should last for many years to come.
2008 Honda Jazz 1.4 ES for just £5,988
The Honda Jazz is a favourite with Which? members thanks to its great practicality and sturdy build quality. The Jazz is an expensive purchase new, but shop around for used models however and you’ll find plenty of choice. Our favourite Jazz is the 1.4 i-VTEC ES.
While this car would have set you back £13,695 when new, we’ve found a 2008 model with just 27,922 miles on the clock and metallic blue paint for just £5,988 – £462 less than its market value. This Jazz returns a strong fuel economy figure of 51.4mpg (claimed) and can accelerate to 62mph in a sprightly 11.5 seconds.
Find out how close the Jazz got to its claimed economy figure in our more realistic tests by signing up to Which? for just £1.
Ford Fiesta 1.25 (82) Edge 5-dr for only £5,988
The Ford Fiesta has long been the UK’s bestselling car. And that’s great news if you’re looking for a used model as you have a huge amount of cars to choose from. We’ve found a 2010 Fiesta 1.25 Edge with five doors for just £5,988, with 28,532 miles on the clock.
This metallic black car has a peppy 1.25-litre petrol engine under the bonnet and fuel bills should be low thanks to a claimed economy of 52.3mpg. At £5,998, this Fiesta is also £787 below its market value.
2011 Skoda Fabia 1.2 with 11,000 miles for £5,995
If you’d rather have a car with fewer miles under its tyres, this Skoda Fabia 1.2 SE Plus has just 11,000 miles and one owner to its name. Although it’s barely broken in, you can pick up this car for half its new list price at just £5,995 – a whopping £1,530 below its retail value.
Claimed fuel economy matches the Jazz above, but the less powerful engine requires a lengthy 14.9 seconds to accelerate to 62mph. If you regularly carry several passengers or heavy luggage, you might want to look for a more powerful model.

The car brokers and deals featured are not vetted, endorsed or recommended by Which?. Always check the specifics of the deal so you know exactly what you are getting and who is supplying the car. Make sure all aspects of the deal are confirmed in writing before committing to buy.
Not all brokers deal in UK sourced vehicles, and this may have an impact on standard equipment and warranty levels.
The term ‘pre-reg’ or ‘pre-registered’ refers to vehicles that are brand new but already registered with the DVLA. This means that you will appear as the second owner on the V5 registration document.
Beware of unscrupulous brokers who tell you they will have to retain the V5 registration document for a period of time after your purchase of the car. Vehicles sold this way may be cheap, but there are legal implications, including the risk that you the buyer could be committing a criminal offence when you drive the car, so they should be avoided.
