Safety alert: Tommee Tippee Sensor Pad baby monitor Cord risk for babies if installed wrongly

01 August 2014

Tommee Tippee has issued a safety alert for its Sensor Pad baby monitor, for fear that if the mat is set up wrongly, your child could be able to pull the cord into its cot.

The Tommee Tippee Sensor Pad baby monitor comes with a detachable sensor pad that fits under your baby's mattress and monitors their movements, and alerts you if they stop moving.

There have been no reported incidents involving the cord and, if set up correctly by following the instructions, Tommee Tippee says its Sensor Pad baby monitor is safe to use.

As a precaution, Tommee Tippee is offering a free cord cover kit to parents who have bought the sensor pad monitor.

We have reviewed Tommee Tippee baby monitors, along with other brands - visit our baby monitor reviews to see how they did in our tests.

Safe baby sleeping tips

Dangling or loose cords and wires can be dangerous. The US based Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an alert in 2011, prompted by reports of seven child deaths and three near deaths since 2002, involving incidents with wires from baby monitors being within reach of the child.

Which? child safety expert Lisa Galliers said: 'It's essential to make sure that all baby monitor power cords and monitor cables are kept well out the way of a baby's reach and at least a meter (3 feet) away from your child's cot. Never leave them dangling and check that your child cannot get hold of them or get tangled in them.'
