Cooker hood with a risk of electric shock – check yours now

Risk of electric shock when using cooker hood
Zanussi ZHC60136X cooker hood

Some Zanussi cooker hoods could cause electric shocks when using the appliance

Zanussi and Elica have issued a safety notice for some of their cooker hoods, as a risk of electric shock has been identified.

If you have an affected cooker hood, Elica and Zannusi say you should stop using it and contact their customer service lines to organise a free repair.

We’ve tested a number of cooker hoods and found big differences between a good and bad one.

Seven of the 20 we’ve tested scored highly enough to be given our Best Buy status, meaning they’re worth spending your money on. See our Best Buy cooker hoods to find the best for you.

Zannusi and Elica cooker hoods

Not all Zanussi and Elica cooker hoods are affected by this potential problem – only models with the following numbers are:

  • ZHC60136X

  • CH 60 SS
  • CH 60 BL
  • CH 90 SS
  • CH 90 BL

To check whether your cooker hood may be affected, take a look at the rating plate, which is located on the left hand side of the inner wall, behind the metal glass filters. Make sure you unplug it before checking.

Only cooker hoods manufactured between 20 May 2013 and the week ending 20 October 2013 are affected. No other Zanussi appliances have a problem.

How we test cooker hoods

All cooker hoods that we review are sent to the lab where they’re put through a series of tough tests. We look at how long it takes a cooker hood to clear steam from a room – some simply aren’t powerful enough – and whether they can remove smells and grease.

We’ve found models that get rid of 95% of the grease, while the worst can only remove 40%. Plus, to help you avoid a cooker hood that’s noisy and flimsy, we test for noise and build-quality.

Visit our cooker hood reviews to see results of the 20 models we have tested, from brands such as AEG, Neff, Hotpoint and John Lewis.
