Vax launches new AirRevolve vacuum cleanerIs this new vacuum cleaner perfect for stairs?

18 February 2015

The Vax AirRevolve is designed for easy use on the stairs

Vax launches a new bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner with a radical new design.

Vax claims its new vacuum has 360 degree manoeuvrability, which means it can move both horizontally and vertically. The AirRevolve has also been designed to sit on a single step, so it stays still whilst you vacuum the stairs.

We've tested other cylinder models from all the big brands, including Dyson, Bosch, Hoover and Vax. Discover if there are any Vax Best Buys by reading our vacuum cleaner reviews.

Vax AirRevolve cylinder vacuum cleaner claims

Which? vacuum cleaner expert Matt Knight says: 'Difficulty vacuuming on the stairs is one of the most common complaints people have with their vacuum cleaners, so it is great to see some innovation in this area to try to make this tricky job a bit less of a chore. I'm looking forward to getting this model to the lab to see if it really is easy to use and of course if its impressive cleaning claims stack up.'

The AirRevolve costs £299.99 and is a full-sized, bagless, cylinder vac. It is available from major retailers or directly from

The AirRevolve vacuum also comes with a six year guarantee though you will need to register your purchase with Vax.

Vax AirRevolve features

The controls for the AirRevolve are built into the handle and it comes with a powered floor head for deep pile carpets and picking up pet hair. There are also the standard accessories of dusting brush, upholstery tool, crevice tool and hard floor tool.

It has an AAAA energy label rating - the four letters correspond to four different ratings for energy, cleaning performance on carpet and hard floor and for dust emissions. AAAA is the best available. However, we've found that this label doesn’t always give you the full story - especially the performance ratings, and our testing has revealed some big inconsistencies with the label, so watch out for our full test review later in the year.

The vacuum has a 1.5 meter hose length and 6 meter cord, with a re-designed rewind that slows as the plug nears the cylinder, helping to prevent it smashing into the body of the vacuum or your ankles. And weighing in at 5.4kg, it should be light enough for most people to carry up and down the stairs or when storing away.

We'll be doing a First Look of this vacuum and will let you know our first impressions. We've already given our views of the Vax Air Cordless, also £299.99.
