Hoover launches smart WiFi home appliances rangeFind out what makes these smart appliance unique
26 June 2015
Hoover has announced the launch of a new range of smart home appliances which it claims is the first in the UK all to be controlled from one mobile app.
Smart appliances, or connected products, are becoming more popular. Using WiFi to interact with us and each other, they have the potential to drastically transform the way we control our households.
The Hoover Wizard range is a full set of kitchen appliances including a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, oven, hob and cooker hood.
They can all be controlled from the Wizard app – which allows you to change the settings, turn them on and off, monitor energy use and receive alerts from your appliances – even when you’re away from home.
The appliances will be available to buy from mid-August and cost a similar amount to existing Hoover products – considerably cheaper than most other smart appliances we've seen.

Smart home appliances
Smart appliances are connected to the internet, usually by WiFi, so that you can remotely interact with them with a smart phone, for example.
Hoover is not the only brand to launch smart kitchen appliances; we’ve seen smart ovens from AEG and Samsung and reviewed the iKettle from Smarter which you can set to boil from your smartphone.
We expect to see a lot more smart appliances in the next year and have started testing some already to find out how they match up to regular appliances.
And smart technology doesn't stop in the kitchen. Smart home brand Nest has recently updated its smart home system which includes a smoke alarm, thermostat and security camera, all of which can be controlled via its app.
Find out what we thought when we tried out the Nest Thermostat.
Hoover’s smart features
Hoover's app monitors each product’s energy consumption and can also send you updates and alerts, such as telling you when your dishwasher needs more rinse aid or that your fridge’s temperature is rising.
Which? home appliances expert Natalie Hitchins said: “At a first glance, the app looks easy to navigate, and includes some handy features for getting the most out of your appliances.
“It’s great to see this new technology available at affordable prices. It will be interesting to see if WiFi connected appliances can truly help consumers to save time and money.
“It’s a shame, however, that at the moment, the app only works for Hoover products. We'd like to see companies working together so that you can control them all from just one system.”
Hoover said that it will be adding voice activation to its smart appliance features in the future.
