Lee Stevens, Payroll & Pensions Supervisor
Lee was a Payroll Administrator when he joined us in an equivalent role. But far from seeing it as a sideways move, he saw huge scope to progress, taking on more responsibility with a solid brand behind him. Was it the right decision?
“Earlier this year, I was promoted to supervisor – does that answer your question? This gives me more responsibility within our 12-strong finance team. For example, I’m now liaising with the Inland Revenue, keeping abreast of new legislation, overseeing the new childcare voucher scheme and dealing with year end returns. I’m based in London, but I also visit Hertford to answer queries and help people maximise their benefits through payroll.
“The accounting side of the role can be challenging, and finance is all heads down at year end, but I’ve been given lots of training and attended a book-keeping course. Which? has also paid for me to study for the Institute of Payroll Professionals Management qualification, a two-year course that will hopefully help me to move up to Payroll Manager. I can also take further qualifications beyond that. Not that it’s all work and study, there’s a good social life here. The Christmas party at the Hilton Hotel is already in my diary!”
