Drivers to get sat nav history tour New software will point out historical sites
04 December 2007

Motorists can now get information on hundreds of historical sites across the UK straight from their satellite navigation (sat nav) system.
A new software product from RoadTour provides audio guides on 600 heritage locations including castles & battlefields, historic homes, royal palaces, and Roman sites.
As you approach a location, the RoadTour software will tell you about the attraction over the load speaker, and will display pictures of the site, opening times and prices.
Sat nav software
The software can be downloaded on to your sat nav’s memory card. It can also be bought on CD or pre-installed on a memory card.
The system works on most Garmin sat navs and the manufacturer says its planning to launch it on other big-brand sat navs as soon as possible.
The RoadTour Heritage software costs from £19.95. A combined heritage and pub guide – RoadTour The Full Trip, which includes reviews of 900 pubs across the UK – costs from £29.95.
Annual updates
RoadTour says that opening times, prices of entry and reviews will be updated once a year; an update will cost from around £5.
RoadTour Managing Director Daniel Taylor said: ‘Sat navs make it easy for us to get from A to B, but perhaps in the process we've lost touch with the history that surrounds us.'
