Sony S-Series and E-Series Walkman November 2009

Sony S-Series and E-Series Walkman

Sony has launched two new lines of Walkman, the S- and the E-Series. Both are available in a spectrum of colours, with the S-Series coming in 8GB and 16GB flavours, and the E-Series being available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB versions

Sony S-Series and E-Series Walkman

Sony has launched the S-Series and the E-Series of Walkman. The devices are very similar in most respects, however the S-Series features integrated speakers so you needn't rely upon a pair of headphones - indeed the Sony Walkman S-Series is the first line of Walkman to support such a feature.

The Sony S-Series has a 2.4-inch screen, while the E-Series has a 2-inch screen. Both feature a 3.5mm headphone socket and an FM radio tuner, although the radios both lack RDS - the feature that displays the station's name on the screen. Both models also feature a small microphone to allow you to record voice memos. Radio can also be recorded.

Both these new lines can be used to play back downloaded content from the BBC iPlayer, and both support the drag and drop transfer of music from iTunes.

Sony Walkman Sound quality

The sound quality of the integrated speakers on the S-Series is quite tinny, but for radio and video clips it isn't too bad. A stand is supplied to support the S-Series so that you can place it on a flat surface, such as a table, while you watch video clips. The battery life on the S-Series changes depending on whether you use the speakers or the headphones. See the table below for more information.
