Boiler reviews you can trust
The Which? experts are constantly testing the most popular boilers. We've reviewed dozens of models from 22 of the top brands, including Baxi, Worcester and Vaillant. And we've been disappointed at how poorly some fared in areas such as ease of use and energy efficiency.
Our testing panel rates the performance of different types of boilers including gas combination, oil combination and heat-only boilers.
We measure the fuel consumption, efficiency and emissions of each appliance to see how much of the energy is converted into heat. The more efficiently a boiler runs, the lower your fuel bills will be.
We also rate how easy each boiler is to install, how simple it is to use and – because you won't be planning to replace it for a long time – how durable it is. In fact, we run a limited durability test by turning the boilers on and off 2,920 times to simulate around a year’s worth of usage.
Any additional features are also tested to make sure they're worth the extra money you pay for them.
What makes a Which? Best Buy boiler?
W've found that the best boilers aren't necessarily the most expensive ones. Which? Best Buy boilers are all about high performance and reliability. They must be easy to understand and be energy efficient and well-constructed.
Out of the 52 boilers we've tested, only eight of them are good enough for Which? to name them Best Buys.
