These Best Buy seven-seater cars are perfect for family duties, offering flexible seating when you need to squeeze in extra passengers, or a huge boot when you don't.

Seven-seat cars are great for large families, especially when you need to transport extra friends home from school – or perhaps grown-up friends to the airport.

The best offer a comfortable experience whether you're riding up-front, in the second row or right at the back. And when the extra seats in the boot aren't needed, they'll usually stow away neatly, freeing up a huge load space.

Buying a seven-seater doesn't necessarily mean you have to choose an MPV, though – while the likes of the Renault Grand Scénic, Citroën Grand Picasso and the Ford S-Max remain popular, there are plenty of SUV options such as the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. There's even an all-electric seven-seater in the form of the Tesla Model S (though the rearmost seats are optional).

Below are the best seven-seater cars you can buy – every one a true Which? Best Buy.

This early seven seater is an oldy but a goody. It won’t win any awards for reliability, but it's pleasant and easy to drive.

We test cars more thoroughly than anyone else

Our tests go further than those carried out by other organisations, and because Which? is independent and doesn't accept advertising or freebies, you can trust our reviews to give you the full, honest and impartial truth about every car we test.

Every car we review is subjected to more than 100 individual tests in a lab, on a test track, and on real roads – and we really clock up the miles, driving around 900 miles in every car we test.

Testing in controlled lab conditions means the results we collect are directly comparable between different cars, helping us determine exactly which models are better and why, and helping you find the perfect car for your needs

And so you know which cars are likely to prove reliable for years to come, we also gather feedback from thousands of UK car owners through the Which? Car Survey, using it to generate detailed reliability ratings for the cars we test.

To take the guesswork out of choosing your next car, take a Which? trial for £1 and you'll receive access to all our expert reviews and advice, plus Which? magazine itself.
