How we test fridge freezers

The best fridge freezers keep food perfectly cool, whether your kitchen heats up or cools down. They chill and freeze food fast to help keep it fresher for longer and they’re easy to set up and keep running at the right temperature.

Each fridge freezer that’s sent to our lab gets subjected to a whole host of rigorous tests. We see how easy it is to set up – checking the fridge and freezer temperatures are what it should be. We then see how well it keeps cool when we raise the room climate to 32°C, and then plunge it down to a chilly 10°C. This tells us whether it will keep food safely chilled and frozen during a heat wave and overnight during winter months.

We also measure how much energy it uses, calculate how much it will cost you to run and reveal whether it’s energy-efficient for its size.
