Greeting cards software: FAQs
What are the computer requirements
Is your computer up to scratch?
Before purchasing any software you should check that your computer meets the minimum specifications as you might not have enough hard disk space or memory to run it. For example, Create your own Greeting Cards requires 128MB RAM, while Greeting Card Maker only requires 8MB.
If your computer doesn’t meet the requirements, the software may take a long time to install, run slowly or not run at all.
Greeting card software comes with one or more discs that you will need to install on your computer in turn. There will be a wizard to take you through the set-up procedure.
When using a website to create your greeting cards you will need to register an account and then make a payment using a debit or credit card. When paying for something online, always check that the address at the top changes from http:// to https:// because this shows that the page is secure.
How do I print my cards?
Printing cards is not always easy
Printing greeting cards can be difficult because they often have to go through the printer twice. Most software programs make two sizes of cards – an A4 page folded in half (half-fold card) or folded twice (quarterfold card).
It’s a good idea to print on paper and in draftmode first. To print in draft, click File > Print > Options. Tick the ‘Draft output’ box > OK > OK. Just untick ‘Draft output’ to return to ordinary printing.
Can I customise the templates?
Greeting card software and websites help you to tailor cards for individuals and events. Most of the products and services include templates – specially laid-out designs that have already assigned a position for text and images.
You can customise these templates by changing the text and adding photos and graphics, or even by moving these around - allowing you to be more creative.
