Different types of high chair

Full-size high chairs

Before you head to the shop consider if you need a full size high chair or a portable chair. We’ve tested four different types of full-size high chair: convertible, combination, light-weight folding, and multi-functional.

Choosing the best chair for your needs will depend on the space you have in your home, how much you want to spend, and what you’re planning to use the chair for.

Size matters

A number of large Mothercare and Mamas & Papas stores have high chairs on display so take a look at the models available.

Some high chairs are bulky, for example, so you'll get a better idea of how much space they take up if you see them side by side.

Try the adjustments

Whilst you're in the store, have a go at adjusting the tray and undoing the buckle on the harness, you're likely to repeat these actions more than once a day and with a squirming child in the seat so pick one you can work easily.

More padding - more work?

Multi-functional chairs often have a lot of padding - comfy for baby, but it can make more work for you when it comes to cleaning.

If your heart is set on a multifunctional chair, save yourself as much scrubbing time as possible by opting for one with as few seams, creases and crevices in the upholstery and on the frame of the chair as possible.

If you do decide to buy online, check delivery charges. Some sites offer free delivery on goods over a certain price, for others, standard delivery will cost you around £4, sometimes more.
