LCD and plasma TVs: Reliability
Flat panel fantastic
This year's results for TV reliability are impressive, with television brands generally scoring highly. Samsung and Sony both receive above-average ratings and are joined by Panasonic.
We found LCD TVs are slightly more reliable than plasma TVs – this may be due to the fact that LCD televisions are more popular than plasma televisions, so manufacturers are investing more in developing them. Plasma TV owners should check their television's menus to see if there is a long-life option which reduces the TV’s brightness. You might not notice much difference in the picture quality, but the display should keep its luminance for longer, as plasma television sets fade over time.
