We've reviewed hundreds of handsets from 16 of the top brands, including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Blackberry and Apple.
We always test a mobile phone’s sound and reception quality. We rate each device on how easy it is to make and receive calls, use the address book and read and write texts.
But because mobiles are crammed with more and more features these days, how will you know which ones are any good? These days, people don't just choose a handset for how good it is as a phone, so we also scrutinise other features. For instance, we test cameras in different lighting conditions and analyse the quality of the pictures – which is exactly what we’d do in a fully-fledged digital camera test! We also test the built-in music players, seeing how easy it is to transfer music, make playlists and control playback.
