Help & advice

You can use this search tool to look for a mortgage if you're moving or to find out if you can save money by switching mortgages.

The questions on this page aim to find out about the property you are thinking of buying or your existing property. Different mortgage deals may be available to you depending on where the property is located and whether it's freehold or leasehold.

If the property is leasehold, you may find it difficult to get a mortgage if there are less than 70 years remaining on the lease.

Help

Property value
Enter the asking price or agreed price of the property you are thinking of buying or the current value of your home if you are changing your mortgage without moving. Ask three estate agents to value your home for a good estimate.

Is the property freehold or leasehold?
Houses tend to be freehold and flats tend to be leasehold but this is not always the case. Check with the estate agent if you are buying a property.

How many years are left on the lease (if you know)?
If you are buying a property, ask your estate agent. If you are changing your mortgage without moving you can find this information on your lease. Your solicitor or conveyancer will check this later on in the buying process.

If the property is a flat, please tell us which storey it is on:
If the flat is on more than one storey, enter the highest one. Some lenders may not lend on flats above a certain number of storeys or in high-rise blocks.
