Choosing the best brand of steam cleaner

If you’ve decided to buy a steam cleaner that can take care of a wide range of cleaning jobs, from floors to windows, then you’ll probably be looking for a cylinder steam cleaner like the ones pictured here. A great steam cleaner does not just deliver a great clean with minimal effort each time – it should be a model you can rely on and ideally one you would be happy to recommend to a friend.

Our brand overview takes all of this into account – including our rigorous test results as well as feedback from hundreds of Which? members who own steam cleaners.

Customer scores are based on how satisfied Which? members were with a product, and how likely they are to recommend it to a friend.

We test cylinder steam cleaners from big brands such as Karcher as well as own-brand models to separate those which give a great all-round clean with minimal effort from the steam cleaners which struggle to shift dirt and make you work hard into the bargain.

We also ask hundreds of Which? members who own steam cleaners to tell us how happy they are with the brand they own, enabling us to give a Which? customer score. The most popular brand of cylinder steam cleaner gets a customer score of 59%, and the worst just 45%. We also ask about any problems they have experienced with it we can calculate its reliability rating.
