Jargon buster
- ISP (Internet service provider) The company that enables and services the connection between your home and the internet.
- POP3 (Post office protocol) A way of allowing an email server (a computer dedicated to delivering email) to 'post' emails to your computer.
- SMTP (Simple mail transfer protocol) A standard internet protocol allowing an email program on your computer (such as Outlook Express) to deliver outgoing emails to an online email server (such as a webmail service).
- Webmail An internet-based email service that collects and stores emails on an online server. You can access these emails using an email package or a standard web browser.
