Manage multiple accounts

Many of us have a web-based email account (such as Hotmail or Gmail) in addition to the email account provided by our internet service provider. However, if you have more than one webmail account you may find it easier to access them all using a single email program. To access Gmail from Outlook Express, open your web browser and go to http://mail.google.com/mail/. Enter your login details, then click on the Settings link in the top-right corner.

Click on the link marked Forwarding and Pop > Enable Pop for all mail > Save Changes then close your browser window.

Open Outlook Express. Select Tools > Accounts from the drop-down menu, then click Add and choose Mail from the pop-out menu. Type your name into the box and then click Next. Now type in your Gmail email address and click Next again.

In the next window, select POP3 in the top menu, then, in the box below, enter the name of your webmail account's incoming server. For Gmail, this is 'pop.gmail.com'. In the final box, type the name of the outgoing server ('smtp.gmail.com'). Click Next.

In the Account name box, type your full Gmail address, then add your password in the field underneath. Click Next, then Finish.

Now highlight your new Gmail account, and click the Properties button on the right. Click the Servers tab at the top, and tick My server requires authentication.

Finally, hit the Advanced tab and ensure the top two boxes are ticked. For Gmail, change the number in the box by Outgoing mail (SMTP) to 465 and ensure the number below is 995. Click OK > Close.

Next time you click Send/Recv in Outlook Express to pick up your regular email, your Gmail should start streaming through.
