1Open locking tabs

Your memory sockets are, by default, locked. To unlock them, press down on the locking tabs (white clips) at either end of the vacant sockets. The slots may be colour-coded to indicate where modules can work together in pairs for better performance.

2Add new memory

Holding the new Ram at the edges, align the notches on the connecting edge of the next unfilled slot and push down so the module sits squarely in the socket.

3Close locking tabs

Ensure that the locking tabs have closed fully into place then replace any connectors and reconnect your cables. Put the case back on loosely, reconnect the power supply and fire-up your computer.

4Checking your system

When the computer restarts, watch the start-up screen carefully and look for the line of text listed 'Memory Testing'. Check that the number beside this is the total memory in kilobytes of your old Ram plus the new.
