BIOS (basic input/output system) The BIOS helps prime up the computer so it's ready to operate. The BIOS screen shows when you boot up your computer, and tells you how to view and modify your hardware set-up.
DDR (double data rate) A type of Ram that works at twice the speed as conventional Ram.
DIMM (dual inline memory module) A double sided type of memory module that can be installed individually.
ECC (error checking and correction) A special feature found in some types of memory where errors can be corrected.
RAM (random access memory) Temporary storage space for applications that are currently running.
RIMM (rambus inline memory module) Similar to a DIMM module but requires installation in like-for-like pairs.
SIMM (single inline memory module) A single sided memory module that must be installed in like-for-like pairs.
