This is good radio, even apart from all the special features.
BUT it does suffer from a problem - after you have set up all the pre-sets you want, you must be careful not to press a pre-set button down too long when you change stations. If you do, you will automatically re-set that button to be pre-set to the station you were listening to previously. Sounds silly, and it is.Then you have to re-set the pre-set, which itself is a little tricky and not something you should have to do.The solution is for the makers to add another button called pre-setting, which you have to press before doing a deliberate re-set of previous pre-sets. Then press the same 'pre-setting' button after performing a pre-set. Simple, yes!

This is an easy radio to use but there are some bugs in its firmware:1. The 'replay' facility doesn't always work and although the rewind facility has been selected, sometimes it doesn't!2. If the 'rewind' has worked and then when it starts to repeat the broadcast of 15mins earlier and the volume is then turned-up, the radio locks-up and no sound is heard and the radio has to be switched off and back on again.3. Sometimes if there is a power cut for example, then when the mains comes back the radio will not just come back on (but sometimes it does). So, the radio needs some updated software to fix these bugs.More importantly than these intermittent faults is the muffled sound of speech. We listen to radio-4 a great deal and the sound clarity leaves something to be desired - a shame for the cost of a 'pure' sounding DAB radio. I expected the sound itself to be a great deal better.

I agree with the drawbacks mentioned by kstonell and I would add that there one even worse problem - the arial is very likely to snap off and cannot be reattached. When this happened with mine I was sent a replacement radio, but the same thing happened again. In my view this is a fundamental design flaw and makes this a DO NOT BUY.

Very good, but not perfect, radio
I also love this radio. The sound quality is good given the size of the radio; the buttons and switches are quite intuitive and easy to use; and (to my eye at least) it looks good - no nasty shiny black plastic to attract finger marks and dust.I use it either with a chargePAK, which is a convenient way of using rechargeable batteries, or on mains. However I do have three niggles with this radio. First, when used with batteries or the chargePAK, it takes a long time (several seconds) to "warm up" before the sound comes on. Second, when you switch it off, it takes a few seconds before the sound goes off. This can be quite inconvenient at times.Thirdly, when you switch it on, the volume is very low and invariably has to be turned up - you do not seem to be able to "save" the volume you last used.In combination, these issues mean that when you switch on the radio, you have to wait there for several seconds for it to "warm up" before you can choose the volume that you want. However I would still recommend this radio because of its sound quality, ease of use and quality look and feel.

Frankly I love this radio, although I must admit to not using any of its cleverer features very often. I always use it on mains and have never used the timer functions. I bought it because I found the controls very intuitive and easy to use in the shop - I was immediately impressed - and I still do when I forget how to do things. My main problem previously with a conventional FM radio was poor reception and resultingly erratic sound quality - both of which are now excellent. There are treble + bass controls and good speakers which occasionally even give the effect of stereo. How, I don't know as they are inches apart. I like the overall look and feel of the radio and I disagree that the standby on/off button is either difficullt to use or find. In fact once you get used to it, it is ideally placed and there is something subtly satisfying about it being half-hidden. It even seems to attract less dust than any other piece of electronic equipment I own! I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
