Using travel review sites The websites
Travel websites can help us decide on our next holiday
A Which? Holiday survey carried out in March 2008 found that 80% of respondents used a travel website for ideas or inspiration when choosing a holiday.
Sites such as realholidayreports.com and virtualtourist.com– to name but a few – all help us to decide where to go on holiday, what to do while we're there and where to stay.
The most commonly used travel review site on the internet, tripadvisor.co.uk, contains over 10 million reviews and often attracts two million unique visitors (the number of different users who access the website) per month in the UK alone.
Photos and videos
The more sophisticated review sites don't just contain written reviews. Increasingly, sites such as holidays-uncovered.co.uk, holidaywatchdog.com and tripadvisor.co.uk are encouraging people to upload their photographs and video clips to give a more rounded opinion. Your idea of a pokey room may not be the same as someone else’s, which is where images can come in handy.
In addition, many sites, including the ones we have listed, have forums where you can read other people’s experiences, ask other travellers specific questions or answer queries based on your own experiences.
